Ramallah – Dunia Al-Watan
Every Ramadan, a drama that “ignites” social media succeeds, because of its artistic content that attracts approval and disapproval of various categories.
The series caused controversy even before the launch of its first series. The series was criticized for trying to promote Arab “normalization” with Israel, because of its showing of a Jewish community among Muslims, while praising it for its rare exposure to the social history of the Gulf region.
The author and author of the work, Ali Shams, told (Sky News Arabia): “The goal is to show how people were living with each other, and how their love was for each other. Conflicts and problems exist in every time and in every religion, but our main goal is to show coexistence in That time. ”
It is noteworthy that Bahraini Ali Shams worked with his brother, Mohamed Shams, to write and write the drama, while it was directed by the Egyptian Mohamed Al-Adl, who had previously directed the series “Harat Al-Yahoud” several years ago.
Shams categorically denied that “normalization with Israel” was one of the goals of the series, noting that “the question of Palestine” is indisputable.
Shams said: “People have judged the series before even watching the work, and there is no such thing. Our approach is never political and we do not want to get carried away by this issue. The question of Palestine is the issue of all Arabs, so we have no orientation towards normalization.”
A spokesman for the Israeli occupation army, Avichai Adraie, poured oil on the fire of the controversy, in a tweet he posted on his official account (Twitter), in which he criticized anti-Jews and “Umm Haroun”.
Adraei said: “The bottom line from which we come out after all the hateful responses of the Jews, during the broadcast of the Umm Haroun series, is that today we are not a defeated people who seek help from others, but rather a state determined to fight for the safety and security of its citizens.”
Veteran Kuwaiti actress Hayat Al-Fahad, who plays Umm Haroun in the series, told Reuters: “We have to say that these classes exist between us. I mean, we have a church and Kuwait is the base for adopting the second, we have Kuwaiti Christians and blessings in them. There are categories that are necessary, few can He knows about them, we must remind them, coexistence is necessary, there must be religious tolerance. We are against the Zionists, against displacement, against the usurpation of states; but we cannot deny, this is the book of God. ”
A group of regional organizations opposed to normalization with Israel published a poster on social media urging viewers to boycott the series, adding that “the malicious drama infiltrates every home … boycott the series of Umm Haroun.”
For his part, Shams pointed out that “the state of controversy” is a healthy matter for the series: “The reactions today between the pro and the opponent, and this is something very healthy and very natural, and one of the signs of successful action. A case of controversy, is the work that succeeds. ”
Aaron’s real mother
The writer of the series said that the main character in it, Umm Haroun, whose drama bears the name, is largely inspired by a real Jewish midwife called “Umm Jan” who arrived in Bahrain from Iraq in the thirties of the last century.
Shams said: “We were inspired by the idea of a character who was once present in Bahrain, in the name of” Umm Jan “, and we relied on it as a character and as an idea, so that we can produce a dramatic work.”
He added: “The story of Umm Haroun is very different, but the story of” Umm Jan “inspired us to write this story” Umm Jan “was living in a society that no one knows her religion, and was entering everyone’s homes without any racial discrimination in any way.
Some in Bahrain rushed to social media, publishing pictures of “Mother of Jean” and a TV interview, conducted with her in 1977.
Umm Jan is widely regarded as a symbol of public service in Bahrain.
Shams sent a message to the critics: “Every writer today aspires to reach the hearts of the people and enter their homes, and I hope that everyone who criticizes us will watch the work, because if he really is a follower of the series he will not be a critic, and we are far from normalizing from the first episode to the last episode.”
