Nadhim Zahawi has mentioned it was “solely proper that we again our workforce”, when requested if Boris Johnson supported the England squad’s resolution to take the knee earlier than matches.
“The elegant approach, fairly passionate approach, that the England supervisor Gareth Southgate put that is precisely the place the Prime Minister is, the place this Authorities is,” the vaccines minister informed BBC Radio 4’s Immediately programme.
“I feel he articulated the feelings of younger males superbly and I feel it is solely proper that we again our workforce.”
It comes after schooling minister Gillian Keegan claimed taking the knee was “creating new divisions” in sport.
Requested about this, Mr Zahawi mentioned: “The symbolism of reminding the world of how painful it’s to be subjected to the racism that Marcus Rashford has been subjected to, whether or not on social media or elsewhere, I completely again.
“If you happen to then extrapolate to a Black Lives Matter motion that has a political agenda…that is a special place, that is my level, which is why I feel we simply need to differentiate and rightly again our workforce.”
